Kanye West says he’s running for U.S. President in 2020

WASHINGTON, DC (NEWS 1130) — The popular rapper Kanye West has announced he will be running for U.S. president.

As U.S. President Donald Trump rallied near Mount Rushmore Saturday for Fourth of July celebrations, West stepped forward by announcing his bid on Twitter.

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” the tweet reads, with the hashtag 2020 vision.

Space X CEO Elon Musk claims he’s throwing his support behind West, replying to his tweet with, “You have my full support!”

It’s unclear if West is serious about his bid or if he filed official paperwork to be on state election ballots.

On Twitter, users are raising their concerns as to whether West will be eligible to run in certain states because of the sudden tweets.

Between his music clothing design, and the 10-year deal he signed with the GAP, some are questioning if West will have time to campaign.

Others are calling into question the seriousness of his announcement, based on how he’s acted publicly in the past.

If West intends to run, he will face off against President Trump, former Vice President Joe Biden, Jo Jorgensen of the Libertarian Party, and Howie Hawkins on the Green Party.

This year’s presidential election is on November 3.
