Carnival Cruise to slowly restart sailings

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Carnival Cruise Line is looking at resuming some of its service later this year, but it seems Vancouver is not on the list.

After suspending service during the COVID-19 outbreak, the cruise line has outlined when it will begin phasing in some North American sailings later this year.

Beginning Aug. 1, a number of Carnival’s ships will resume service from busier ports in Florida and Texas, which are easily accessible by vehicles for many passengers.

All other North American and Australian cruises remain cancelled through Aug. 31.

The Carnival Spirit Vancouver to Honolulu cruise on Sept. 25 is also cancelled.

Customers impacted by cancellations will be receiving emails for credits or refunds.

“We are committed to supporting all public health efforts to manage the COVID-19 situation. We are taking a measured approach, focusing our return to service on a select number of homeports where we have more significant operations that are easily accessible by car for the majority of our guests,” says an email from the cruise line.

In the meantime, the Carnival says it will be consulting with experts and government officials regarding additional safety procedures.

All sailings were suspended in March because of the pandemic.
