Mayerthorpe marks 15 years since RCMP officers gunned down

MAYERTHORPE (660 NEWS) – It has been 15 years and the town of Mayerthorpe is still feeling the pain.

On March 3, 2005, a gunman opened fire and killed four RCMP officers.

Cst. Leo Johnston, Anthony Gordon, Brock Myrol and Peter Schiemann were all gunned down by James Roszko.

Roszko killed himself after being shot by another Mountie who had just arrived at the scene.

The massacre was considered the greatest single loss of life in the RCMP since the Northwest Rebellion of 1885.

The community will be holding a ceremony Tuesday the Fallen Four Memorial Park.
