FORT MACLEOD (660 NEWS) – Four people have been charged following a protest at a Hutterite colony last month.
On Sept. 2, Fort MacLeod RCMP responded to the Jumbo Valley Colony near the town where a large crowd was protesting.
The group, known as ‘Liberation Lockdown’, was speaking out against what they called the unethical treatment of animals on farms.
When they arrived, police found several protestors entered a turkey barn illegally.
The protests prompted the UCP government to introduce legislation aimed at harsher penalties for those who trespass on agricultural property.

The investigation has led to charges of mischief against four people: Maxwell Ming Mah, 46, of Edmonton; Claire Buchanan, 28, of Calgary; Kennadi Rae Herbert, 24, of Pincher Creek; and a 16-year-old girl from Calgary.
The three adults will appear in court on Nov. 27, while the 16-year-old will make her court appearance on Nov. 15.
