Climate change activist Greta Thunberg heads to Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Climate change activist Greta Thunberg will be in Vancouver this week.

The 16-year-old is expected to take part in a rally this Friday outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, as part of her Fridays for Future campaign.

Thunberg was just in Edmonton, where she appeared at a protest outside the legislature last week. Her rally was met by a counter-protest led by oil and gas supporters, who said they were frustrated with celebrities visiting Alberta and telling Alebertans how to run their business.

The Swedish activist first started striking from school for climate action last summer. She’s made headlines, met with politicians, and led protests demanding governments address climate change around the globe.

She has also criticized world leaders, who she accuses of letting down youth by doing too little to tackle the issue.

Friday’s rally in Vancouver will featured a number of local Indigenous activists. It begins at 11:00 a.m., and will be the first she attends after the federal election.
