Error at ATB has customers seeing thousands in red ink

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A major banking error gave a shock to customers with ATB Financial.

One customer reached out to 660 NEWS saying his bank account was $20,000 in the red after duplicate payments were taken out.

“I was pretty stunned, my jaw hit the floor,” said Rogers employee Jesse Simon. “I said to my wife, ‘come over here’. She ran over and I showed her my statement and she said ‘what the heck happened?’ ”

Simon said, when he posted the issue to Facebook, several others responded saying the same thing happened to them.

ATB said it has corrected the technical issue and the system is now operating as normal.

In a statement e-mailed to 660 NEWS, ATB said “Our highest priority now is working on fixing any issues for our 1,400 affected customers as quickly as possible. We’re hoping to do this by the end of today. We’re also going to make sure that any fees our customers incurred as a result of this error are taken care of.”

Simon said this error won’t change where he banks.

“I’ve been with ATB a long time, I don’t suspect I’ll change anything. I’m hopeful if they’ve figured out where the issue is that they come back with an apology and clear any charges to my bank.”
