MEDICINE HAT (660 NEWS) — Police in Medicine Hat recently had to assist after Alberta Fish and Wildlife officers were unable to attend to a young deer who had suffered traumatic injuries, believed to be the result of a vehicle collision.
The animal was hurt Friday morning, and the officers determined the most humane action would be to euthanize.
Because the deer was close to a residential area, police say they decided a firearm couldn’t be deployed and instead used a knife.
To prevent any trauma to witnesses, officers put up a barrier, removed the remains and cleaned the area.
The police service in the southeastern Alberta city says it is aware of a video that is circulating on social media of this incident.
However, the MHPS adds it supports the actions of the officers, who took the matter very seriously.
The citizen video can be viewed here. WARNING: Some people may find it disturbing.
