Injunction against Bill 9 overturned

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – The Alberta Court of Appeal has overturned an injunction filed against Bill 9.

The Bill seeks to delay wage negotiations for public sector workers until Oct. 30.

The injunction was filed by the Alberta Union of Public Employees in an attempt to block the UCP government from implementing the bill.

Alberta’s Minister of Finance Travis Toews said “the decision by the Court of Appeal is a positive result for Alberta taxpayers.”

“This decision ensures government can make fully informed and prudent economic decisions in the interest of both taxpayers and workers during a time of fiscal restraint.

“Our government has great respect and admiration for the work of Alberta’s public sector and I look forward to constructive discussions with union leadership as we seek the best value for the hard-earned dollars that Albertans pay for our public services in this difficult economic climate.”
