Andreescu back under US Open lights in semi-final action

NEW YORK (660 NEWS) — Canada’s Bianca Andreescu is back in action at the US Open, with a chance at booking a spot in the women’s final.

The 19-year-old is set to play Belinda Bencic of Switzerland in Thursday’s second evening session match in Arthur Ashe Stadium at New York’s Flushing Meadows.

While Andreescu and Bencic have never played one another, they have hit the practice courts together.

“She takes the ball really early,” Andreescu said of her opponent. “She likes to be very aggressive. She has a very good serve. She moves pretty well, too, so I’m going to do my best to focus on myself, mainly. Just keep doing what I’m doing because I think my game is throwing off a lot of players.”

Andreescu will take the court after the first semi-final is in the books: Serena Williams versus Elina Svitolina. That opening match begins at 5:00 p.m. MT.

The Canadian has had fantastic 2019 with two titles and a 31-4 record.
