All three major parties will make campaign promises to cut cell phone bills: sources

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – All three major parties will be making campaign promises to cut cell phone bills ahead of October’s federal election, Reuters says.

The news agency says it has spoken with party sources and is reporting that while the Liberals are still looking at all their options, they are considering a potential cap on what cell phone companies can charge customers each month.

The Liberals aren’t the only ones – the NDP will also be promising to crack down on cell and internet affordability. The Conservatives, sources say, are looking at a possible tax rebate.

Studies have shown Canadians pay higher bills than most comparably developed countries.

The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association says the possible changes could impact important investments and warns against short term election promises that could affect the economy.
