Uber driver sustains gunshot wound in alleged kidnapping

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — Edmonton police say an Uber driver is recovering from a gunshot wound after allegedly being kidnapped at gunpoint on Saturday. Around 5 p.m., the male driver was kidnapped from a restaurant parking lot where he was parked inside his vehicle.

Police received a report that three men, described as indigenous, kidnapped the driver at gunpoint and forced him into a 2019 Dodge Ram truck.

From there the suspects drove the man to several locations including a bank in an attempt to extort money from him. When the perpetrators were unsuccessful in getting the money they shot the man in the leg.

The suspects then left the injured man in the truck before fleeing on foot. The man’s cries for help alerted nearby residents who then contacted police.

Paramedics treated him and took him to the hospital with serious injuries.
