Around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, the plane took off from Medicine Hat Airport, travelling to Moose Jaw. It was expected to take an hour and a half to get there.

According to information provided by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, the plane, an American Aviation AA-IV, appears to have gone down approximately 20 minutes after takeoff.

When they did not arrive in Moose Jaw, family there reported them missing, according to RCMP.

The Saskatoon Hilltops, a team in the Canadian Junior Football League, identified one of the dead as Justin Filteau.

The plane was found early this morning near Irvine, 35 kilometres east of Medicine Hat, with the assistance of the military. Three people were on board when it took off and all three were found dead.
