Lloydminster RCMP introduce ‘Constable Scarecrow’ program

LLOYDMINSTER (660 NEWS) — The City of Lloydminster is set to introduce a new traffic safety program to begin later this month.
“Constable Scarecrow” is an initiative that will help to reduce speeding and crashes in specific areas around the city.
The program will include a full-sized metal cut-out of an RCMP officer. The idea is to make it seem like an officer is tagging speeders, to get the drivers to slow down.
The metal officers will be visible next to roadways in high traffic and high collision areas.
The program is one that originated in Coquitlam, B.C. in 2018. Since it’s inception, RCMP in Coquitlam have reported the number of drivers exceeding the speed limit was reduced by roughly 50 per cent.
In 2016, 85 per cent of collisions in Alberta involved at least one driver who committed a driving error.
