Emergency exercise to be held in Banff

BANFF (660 NEWS) – It’s happened before in Alberta and it could happen again, a raging wildfire forces the evacuation of tens of thousands of people.

That’s what the Town of Banff and Parks Canada is preparing for as the agencies are teaming up for a full-day emergency exercise on Wednesday.

The goal of the exercise is to ensure residents and businesses are ready should they be ordered to leave under the threat of an approaching wildfire.

Emergency officials will visit all homes on the south side of the river in Banff while teams will practice emergency coordination of regional agencies and evacuation planning with the emergency coordination centre set up at the Town Hall.

The exercise also coordinates with a test of the emergency alert system, which is set to take place at 1:55 p.m.
