Fildebrandt responds to leaders debate, talks independence

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Freedom Conservative Party leader Derek Fildebrandt was not invited to attend Thursday’s election debate so he took his message online.
Fildebrandt took to his Facebook page to answer the same questions posed to the four leaders involved.
The FCP leader was not invited to the debate as the rules stated that the parties participating must have one MLA elected under their banner.
Fildebrandt was elected as a Wildrose MLA in 2015 and was kicked out of the United Conservative Party caucus in February 2018.

He answered each question that was asked during the televised debate from health care to education and pipelines.
On relations with Ottawa, Fildebrandt said Alberta needs to get a fair shake or separate from the country.
“We should have the same rights as Quebec; to collect our own taxes, our own police force, our own pension, our own immigration system and we need to put a complete end to equalization. If Albertans cannot have this, then we need to have a vote on independence.”
Social issues were also one of the big topics of the night and Fildebrandt didn’t hold back in his response.
“This is not the government’s business. We believe in freedom in the Freedom Conservative Party. We believe that if you’re not hurting anyone else, it’s none of the government’s bloody business. Jason Kenney and Rachel Notley need to stop playing politics with our vulnerable minorities, they need to stop playing politics with our at-risk youth, and get the government out of the bedrooms of Alberta.”
On the budget, Fildebrandt said his party would balance the budget in three years before offering any significant tax cuts.
