Former Alberta Mountie faces additional charges for allegedly breaching bail

EDMONTON – Alberta’s police watchdog says a former Edmonton-area Mountie who is awaiting sentencing for multiple criminal offences is facing four new charges.

Aaron Lee Sayler, who was an officer between 2012 and 2016, was convicted last September of 10 criminal charges, including harassing and damaging the property of women with whom he’d been romantically involved.

He was released pending sentencing on multiple conditions including that he surrender his passport to the court.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says Sayler was arrested last week for allegedly trying to breach his bail conditions.

ASIRT investigated and charged him with four additional offences.

Those charges include making a false statement to obtain a passport, fraud under $5,000 and obstruction of justice.
