CFIB releases its municipal spending watch report.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A new report from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) states municipal spending is growing 2 and a half times faster than population and inflation.

This is the ninth edition of the Alberta municipal spending watch report.

It said that between 2006 and 2016 inflation adjusted municipal spending in the province increased 62 per cent.

But what exactly does that mean for the average Alberta household?

As Director of Provincial Affairs with the CFIB, Amber Ruddy said, its money wasted.

“Alberta households are paying an excess of 1,625 dollars in 2016, what that means is that if the municipalities kept their spending to population and inflation growth, each household could have saved 16 hundred dollars”

Contracting out services to the private is just one of the recommendations the CFIB is making.
