One dead after mid-air plane crash in Ottawa’s West End

OTTAWA — Paramedics say one person is dead after two small planes crashed mid-air in Ottawa on Sunday morning.

Ottawa Police say one aircraft was able to be redirected to the Ottawa International Airport, while the smaller of the two planes crashed into a field.

Inspector Rob Bernier could not give many details as the investigation continues.

“We have secured the scene. The scene has been rendered safe and though I cannot provide much detail on this incident as the Transportation Safety Bureau has been engaged on this incident and will be taking charge of the investigation.”

The TSB says the plane that landed at the airport sustained minor damage.

A spokesman for Ottawa paramedics, Marc-Antoine Deschamps, says one person who was in the plane that crashed in the field was pronounced dead on scene.

Deschamps says no injuries were reported from the other plane.
