Another UCP candidate resigns

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The United Conservative Party has taken another hit in its election campaign as another candidate has stepped down.
Calgary-South East candidate Eva Kiryakos bowed out of the race over social media comments she made years ago.
“I’ve been getting threats from someone who wants to release images of things I’ve said or commented on in the past,” said Kiryakos. “At first I was scared of this person. Scared that my fellow candidates would be affected, scared that people would take my comments out of context, label me or attack me on social media.”
In her resignation statement, she said it’s important to have open discussions as Albertans and Canadians.
“I’m happy to openly dialogue with people who have different views, it’s ok to disagree. What is the point of being Canadian if we can’t wrestle with issues and guidelines from schools that affect us in a different way?”
Kiryakos is the second UCP candidate to step down in the last two weeks. Caylan Ford took her name out of the Calgary-Mountain View riding after social media comments she made regarding white supremacist groups went public.
