97 Street reopens following Edmonton Chinatown Gate construction

The City of Edmonton says 97 Street has reopened to traffic after the Chinatown Gate was successfully installed.

97 Street was closed between Jasper Avenue and Okîsikow (Angel) Way (101A Avenue) for around two weeks.

Despite this, the City says around Sept. 15, the same portion of road will close overnight until around Sept. 28, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., to allow crews to install scaffolding and hoarding.

During the closure, a detour will be in place using 100 Street or 95 Street via Jasper Avenue or 103A Avenue.

ETS Route 900X will be detoured from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly from September 15 to 28.

After the two-week overnight closure, one northbound lane on 97 Street will be closed during daytime, off-peak hours from approximately September 29 to October 19 for material delivery.

Construction on the Chinatown Gate is expected to be completed in 2027.
