Edmonton man charged in connection to Facebook Marketplace robbery

Alberta RCMP say an 18-year-old man from Edmonton has been charged in connection with a Facebook Marketplace robbery.
Mounties from Strathcona County began an investigation into a theft involving a Facebook Marketplace transaction on March 4, 2026.
It is believed that someone had arranged to sell a laptop through Facebook Marketplace and had met with a man for the transaction.
Police say that during the exchange, the man handed the person selling the laptop what appeared to be cash, and while they were counting the money, the man allegedly sprayed the person with what is believed to be bear spray before taking the laptop and fleeing the scene.
Mounties were later able to confirm that the money was counterfeit.
Over the course of the investigation, Mounties identified a man who was believed to be connected, and on June 15, took 18-year-old Cody Bear into custody.
Bear has since been charged with robbery with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of failing to comply, and uttering counterfeit money.
