Authorities say two Edmonton men in their 30s are facing charges for allegedly posting online threats against the Jewish community in separate incidents around the same time of year.
In one alleged incident, law enforcement says posts that appeared to have originated from Edmonton threatened harm against the Jewish community in Niagara.
The Niagara Regional Police Service contacted the Edmonton Police Service on Dec. 17, 2025, and EPS investigators identified a suspect and arrested him two days later.
Amjad Jaradat, 31, has been charged with uttering threats. He will be residing in Saskatoon with several conditions, including not being within 100 metres of a Jewish place of worship or community centre; not attending a protest or vigil by supporters of either Israel or Palestine; and not possessing electronic devices that can connect to the internet when outside of work.
Edmonton police is recommending the courts consider increasing the accused’s possible sentence due to “evidence the offence may have been motivated by hatred.”
In what appears to be an entirely separate alleged incident, a 35-year-old Edmonton man was arrested by the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) on Dec. 20.
Authorities say that suspect “was sharing extremist views and comments towards the Jewish Community.” An investigation was conducted in partnership with EPS.
Esteban Pavez was charged with uttering threats to the Jewish community. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 29. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
The allegations against both accused have not been tested in court.
