19-year-old man’s death in northeast Edmonton considered suspicious; person in custody

Edmonton police say a 19-year-old man is dead and a 21-year-old man who knew him is in custody.

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the early Monday morning death at a home in northeast Edmonton as suspicious.

Officers were called around 2 a.m. to the home on 80 Street and 117 Avenue for reports of a stabbing. They arrived to find the victim “in medical distress.”

“Officers provided first aid until EMS arrived and took over medical care. Sadly, the male was declared deceased at the scene,” police said in a news release.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m.

The 21-year-old was taken into custody at Jasper Avenue and 101 Street.

The investigation has since been turned over to homicide detectives.

Edmonton police are asking residents in the Parkdale neighbourhood to check their properties for “any unusual items that may have been discarded following the incident.”

“If you come across anything that appears suspicious, do not move the object and contact police immediately,” police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
