Alberta-wide arrest warrant issued in connection to 2019 homicide in Edmonton

Edmonton police have issued an arrest warrant for 38-year-old Fahiye Ahmed, who is believed to be connected to a 2019 Christmas Day homicide.

EPS says on Dec. 25, 2019, officers responded to reports of shots being fired around 7:20 a.m. near 117 Street and 107 Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 28-year-old man outside an apartment building.

Paramedics also responded to the scene to treat the man, but he died a short time later.

An autopsy later identified the 28-year-old as Abdinasir Abdullahi Shire. It also confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound.

Through an investigation, police have been able to identify Ahmed as a suspect in the homicide and have issued an Alberta-wide arrest warrant for second-degree murder.

Anyone who has any information on the whereabouts of Ahmed is asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Correction: Edmonton police previously incorrectly indicated the arrest warrant for Ahmed was Canada-wide. They have since corrected that information to Alberta-wide.
