Pilot injured after small airplane crashes at airport southeast of Edmonton

The pilot of a small airplane was hospitalized after he crashed at an airport southeast of Edmonton Monday, according to Strathcona County RCMP.
Mounties say the plane crash at Cooking Lake Airport also caused a small grass fire, which has since been put out.

The pilot was the only person aboard the plane, officials have said. He was taken to hospital by STARS ambulance.

Authorities are asking members of the public to avoid the area.
RCMP officers were on scene Monday afternoon, while investigators with the Transportation Safety Board were en route to investigate.
The Cooking Lake Airport is about 35 kilometres from downtown Edmonton.
