Edmonton police investigating Superstore fire that injured 1 person as ‘suspicious’

The fire that broke out at an Edmonton Superstore Monday afternoon, injuring one person, is being investigated by police as suspicious.

Edmonton police confirmed to CityNews Tuesday afternoon officers were investigating the blaze at the 114 Avenue and Kingsway Superstore.

One person was assessed and transported to hospital following the fire, which brought the Edmonton Fire Rescue Services to the grocery store around 12:53 p.m.

Crews arrived to alarms ringing, customers already evacuated, and heavy smoke inside the building. The fire was brought under control at 1:07 p.m. and declared out at 2:44 p.m.

The grocery store was surrounded by yellow tape, and people wearing hazmat suits were seen walking out of the store with a dog.

Fire investigators are working to determine a cause.
