Edmonton police say shootings in the city have remained at a consistent rate to start 2025.
EPS released its statistics of January’s shootings on Friday and confirmed there were nine shootings in Edmonton during the opening month.
While it is an increase over December’s seven shootings, it is the same number the city saw in January 2024.
“This past month, we saw a consistent number of shootings,” says Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart, with the EPS Guns and Gangs Section. “As we embark on the new year, we remain committed to keeping gun violence at bay in Edmonton.”
Of the nine shootings that were reported, EPS says seven are believed to have been targeted and five resulted in injuries being reported.
There were three deaths, and six of the incidents had the potential for an innocent bystander to be harmed.
Police also note they were able to seize 57 guns in January.
