Child found unresponsive at B.C. campground dies at Calgary hospital

CRESTON (NEWS 1130) — Calling it a tragedy for the community, the RCMP in Creston are announcing the death of a child, four days after the child was found in serious medical distress at a campground.

On Monday, shortly after 6:00 p.m. Mounties and BC Ambulance received a report of an unresponsive child at a campground east of Creston.

“When members arrived, they found a child in serious medical distress,” a statement from police reads. “First aid measures were conducted and the child was transported to Calgary Children’s Hospital by way of BC Air Ambulance.”

The child died from their injuries on Thursday.

The RCMP are not specifying what kind of injuries the child had, how old they were, or where the family is from.

“This investigation is still in the preliminary stages with many tasks being completed. This will be a thorough and involved process involving many agencies including BC Coroners service,” the statement adds.

Police say they would appreciate any witnesses to come forward by contacting the Southeast District Major Crime Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477 or the Creston RCMP.
