EPS hands out over 1,600 tickets in 24 hours

EDMONTON (CityNews) – Edmonton drivers need to ease off the gas pedal, as Edmonton Police Service handed out over 1,600 traffic tickets in just 24 hours.

EPS ran its “Operation 24 Hours” on July 22 and handed out 1,445 speeding tickets.

Officers also issued:
  • 84 safety violations;
  • 67 red light offenses;
  • Seven distracted driving tickets;
  • And one Criminal Code offence

EPS highlighted the most notable offences included three loaded tractor-trailers were caught speeding on Yellowhead Trail and Anthony Henday Drive.

And a motorcyclist was caught going 113 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone in the area of 184 Street and 125 Avenue.

The Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton coordinate regular enforcement campaigns throughout the year (such as Operation 24 Hours) to improve traffic safety on Edmonton’s roadways.
