Positivity rate remains high with 1,633 new cases identified in Alberta

CALGARY (CityNews) – The number of new cases may have dropped Sunday, but that doesn’t necessarily mean COVID-19 is slowing down in Alberta.
The province reported 1,633 positive cases from 15,509 tests, for another double-digit positivity rate of 10.3 per cent.
While variants are no longer being widely tested for, Alberta still identified 411 new variants of concern, with variant cases accounting for 44.5 per cent of active cases.

The province saw little movement in active case numbers overall with 25,197 ongoing COVID-19 cases in Alberta.
The Calgary zone leads in active cases with 11,312, while Edmonton is next in line at 5,917.
There are 668 people being treated for COVID-19, with 155 of those patients in intensive care units.
Two more people have died, bringing Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll to 2,110 lives lost.
The province administered 42,485 vaccine doses in the past day, a number expected to increase as eligibility opens to Albertans born in 2009 or earlier on Monday.
