Teacher running across Canada to raise money for Childhood Cancer, Make a Wish

DUNCAN, B.C. (NEWS 1130) — A teacher from B.C. with a passion for running is taking a page from Terry Fox and is running across Canada to raise money for Childhood Cancer and Make a Wish.

Rick Fall is calling his journey: The FalloRick Home to Home Run. It started in his hometown of Duncan, B.C. on April 12 and will end in his current home of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

He will continue running in the months ahead with hopes of raising $300,000.

While Fall is no stranger to distance running — with over 14 marathons to his name — this run will definitely be his longest journey by far.

Fall told NEWS 1130 the cause was “dear to his heart,” considering his work with children as a teacher over the last 17 years.

“I’ve seen a number of kids go through cancer illness,” he said. “And I also had a niece that was granted a wish from Make a Wish Canada. And so I thought I’d combine the two foundations together for one event, and hopefully raise $300,000 that will be split between … the two foundations.”

While the first day on the run was tough, Fall has continued to pursue his goal in hopes of finishing the run this summer.
In five days he has raised more than $18,000.
