Alberta identifies 977 new variant cases on Saturday, reports three new deaths

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Alberta identified 1,486 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, with 977 of those being variants of concern.

There are now 9,417 active variant cases in the province. Variants make up 54.4 per cent of all active cases in Alberta.

The province has now identified more than 15,000 total variant cases since they were first reported in the province. The current total is now 15,827.

In a series of tweets, Dr. Deena Hinshaw reported three additional deaths from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours in Alberta.

There are 445 people in hospital fighting the virus — an increase of 22 over the day before. Of those, 94 Albertans are in intensive care.
