Nearly 900 variant cases identified in Alberta, no deaths reported

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Alberta identified 1,616 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, with 898 of those being variants of concern.

Variant cases now make up about 53.5 per cent of all active cases in the province.

On a positive note, no new deaths were reported from COVID-19 over the last 24 hours in Alberta.

The province is approaching 15,000 total variant cases identified since they were first reported in the province.

As for hospitalizations, 423 people are in hospital fighting the virus, with 93 in the ICU.

The province’s hospital bed capacity sits at 83 per cent as of Friday afternoon.

As for vaccines, 25,931 doses were administered in the province since Thursday, with 1,070,693 Albertans now having received at least one dose.

As for fully vaccinated Albertans, that number has climbed past 210,000.
