CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Variant cases of COVID-19 now account for over 45 per cent of all active cases in the province.
That coming after Alberta identified 1,521 new infections on Friday, with 674 being the B.1.1.7 variant.
Currently, there are 13,059 total active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta.
All 674 new variants cases reported in Alberta on Friday are of the B.1.1.7 variety.

Hospitalizations saw a slight decrease over the last day with 333 people now in a hospital, with ICU admissions staying unchanged from Thursday at 83.
The province’s hospital bed capacity is now at 87 per cent following Friday’s numbers update.
Two new deaths were also reported on Friday, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in Alberta up to 2007.
Since Thursday, 24,788 vaccines have been distributed with the province now surpassing over 800,000 vaccines distributed.
Over 153,000 Albertans have now been fully vaccinated with two doses of vaccine.
No live update was held by the province on Friday.
Numbers are expected to be released online through the weekend and again on Monday, with Dr. Deena Hinshaw scheduled to hold a live update on Tuesday afternoon.
