Alberta Energy Regulator suspends operations for Calgary-based company

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has suspended all operations for Calgary-based oil and gas firm Sanling Energy.

The regulator said the company owes $67 million for end of life obligations surrounding abandoned infrastructure and repeated requests to bring them into compliance have failed.

Sanling has licenses for 2,266 wells, 2,170 pipelines and more than 200 facilities.

“If SanLing, or any company, wants to do business in Alberta, they must follow our rules,” said Blair Reilly, director of Enforcement and Emergency Management. “We cannot allow a company that has ignored the rules continue to operate—that’s not in Alberta’s interest.”

The AER said they have little confidence the company can conduct operations safely and this decision will protect the public and the environment.
