Lethbridge Police keeping an eye on businesses threatening to open despite restrictions

LETHBRIDGE (660 NEWS) – Several businesses in Lethbridge have vowed to open up Monday despite public health restrictions.

Lethbridge police said that if they do, officers will be on hand to address the issue.

Police said they are working with Alberta Health Services (AHS) to address the potential openings of these businesses.

Over the weekend, several business owners shared a “call to action” post on social media saying they will open regardless of the restrictions.

Business owners argue that if big-box stores, ski resorts, and malls can remain open then others such as gyms and salons should as well.

Lethbridge police said that as this matter falls under AHS jurisdiction, they will help in the inquiries and forward any specific complaints from residents.

“The priority of the Lethbridge Police Service continues to be the safety and well-being of the entire community, and we will work with our citizens and other agencies to ensure that,” the service said in a release.

“Updates on any related enforcement issues in this regard will be provided as appropriate.”
