Nine additional COVID-19 deaths in Alberta, cases surge by 1,727

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the province with 1,727 new infections reported on Tuesday.

Alberta Health Services says there are 20,388 active cases province-wide, with the Edmonton zone continuing to lead in active infections.

The Edmonton zone currently has 9,383, while the Calgary zone has 7,529.

Sadly, nine more Albertans have died due to COVID-19 related complications.

The latest deaths involve:

  • A man in his 70s linked to the outbreak at Covenant Health St. Joseph’s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.
  • A man in his 80s linked to the outbreak at Good Samaritan Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.
  • A man in his 70s in South Zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.
  • A man in his 90s linked to the outbreak at Good Samaritan Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre in Edmonton Zone. Comorbidities are unknown at this time.
  • A man in his 70s in Central Zone. Comorbidities are unknown at this time.
  • A man in his 80s linked to the outbreak at Laurel Heights Retirement Residence in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.
  • A woman in her 90s linked to the outbreak at Grey Nuns Community Hospital Unit in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.
  • A man in his 80s linked to the outbreak at Carewest George Boyack in Calgary Zone. The case included comorbidities.
  •  A woman in her 70s linked to the outbreak at Bethany, Calgary in Calgary Zone. The case included comorbidities.

 

The death toll now sits at 640.

Hospitals in the province continue to be overflowed with 654 people presently admitted and 122 people are in ICUs.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 51,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus.
