Alberta reports 1,608 COVID cases and nine deaths on Sunday

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Alberta is reporting 1,608 new COVID-19 cases and nine additional deaths, one day after setting a new case record.
There are 15,692 active cases with 435 people in hospital, including 95 in intensive care – all increases from the day before.
This comes after the province recorded a new single-day high with 1,731 cases on Saturday.
Those who died ranged in age from their 70s to their 90s. All but one fatality were linked to previously known outbreaks.

Of the nine new deaths, three occurred in the past 24 hours. The other six were between Nov. 25 and Nov. 27.
“There can be a brief delay in a death being reported to Alberta Health or in a death being confirmed post-mortem as having COVID-19 as a contributing cause,” explained Alberta Health in a statement.
A total 40,219 Albertans have recovered from the novel coronavirus.

Dr. Theresa Tam has warned that Canada is on track to hit as many as 10,000 new daily cases by next month.
The Alberta government announced last week it’s giving 700 more peace officers the power to enforce COVID-19 restrictions as hospitalizations continue to climb.
Fines for breaking the rules range from $1,000 to $100,000.
