CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Premier Jason Kenney says he is hoping to work closely with president-elect Joe Biden to maintain strong economic ties between Alberta and the United States.
In a congratulatory statement, Kenney said the economic partnership between Alberta’s provincial government and the U.S. – notably in the energy sector – was paramount in growing both economies.
Biden defeated President Donald Trump to become the 46th president of the United States after winning Pennsylvania on Saturday morning.
Congratulations to President-elect @JoeBiden and VP-elect @KamalaHarris on the U.S. election, and to all of those elected this week to the United States Congress and Senate.

“U.S. energy security is dependent on Alberta as the United States’ largest source of oil imports. Much of the American economy is fuelled by Alberta energy,” said Kenney. “We look forward to working with president-elect Biden’s transition team and future administration to ensure that this vital economic partnership continues.”

Last month, Kenney said he was hopeful about the future of the Keystone XL pipeline even if the Democrats were to win the election. Biden has vowed to kill the project.
“Canada and the United States must work closely together to protect lives and livelihoods through the COVID crisis, and to return our economies to growth,” added Kenney.
“Alberta looks forward to doing our part in advancing that growth agenda, working with the next U.S. administration and Congress.”
Premier Kenney also took the opportunity to congratulate Kamala Harris, who became the first woman to become vice-president in the U.S, and all members of the U.S. Congress.
