Amazon announces it’s hiring 1,600 workers in Alberta

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Online sales are driving job growth in Alberta, so much so that Amazon is on another hiring spree.

The company announced it plans to hire 1,600 seasonal employees throughout the province.

In total, about 10,000 workers are being added across the country and 100,000 across North America.

To keep workers safe, Amazon is also investing millions of dollars in COVID-19 measures, including enhanced cleaning, staggered shifts and in-house testing.

This comes after a minor outbreak was reported earlier this year at the Amazon the fulfillment centre, north of Calgary.

Last month, Amazon announced it was bringing in 100,000 workers to help with a surge in online shopping. That included 3,500 workers in B.C. and Ontario.

Last week, Canada Post announced it plans to hire 4,000 temporary employees across the country to help deal with a major increase in package delivery.
