17-year-old charged with 2nd-degree murder in west Edmonton stabbing

EDMONTON – Edmonton police have laid charges in relation to a stabbing in the city’s west end last week.

Last Thursday, around lunchtime, EPS was called to 166 Street and Stony Plain Road for reports of a fight. When they arrived, they found 46-year-old Michael Podgorney suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

EMS and police tried to treat him, but Podgorney ultimately died at the scene.

Investigators confirmed Tuesday the case was being treated as a homicide and that second-degree murder charges were laid against a a 17-year-old.

The accused was not named as they are under 18.
