Premier Kenney’s approval slips again according to Angus Reid

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Prime Minister isn’t the only politician whose popularity is suffering over the handling of the Wet’suwet’en protests and solidarity blockades.

According to the latest rankings from Angus Reid, all but one provincial premier has seen approval ratings slide during the last three months.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney saw his support drop seven per cent since December 2019.

The numbers come as the Alberta government introduced Bill 1: The Critical Infrastructure Defence Act, which would impose stiff penalties on those who block critical infrastructure, such as railways and roads.

B.C. Premier John Horgan saw the largest drop, down 10 per cent as he currently sits at an approval rating of 46 per cent.

In a survey done by Angus Reid last month, about 18 per cent of B.C. residents polled said Horgan handled the Wet’suwet’en protests and blockades well. However, 65 per cent believed he did a poor job.

Since his election win in April 2019, Jason Kenney has seen his approval rating slide from a peak of 61 per cent.

Meanwhile, Horgan has stayed relatively steady since being named B.C. Premier in 2017. His highest approval rating, according to Angus Reid, was 56 per cent in December 2019.

Quebec Premier Francois Legault and Saskatchewan’s Scott Moe are tied for the top spot in the rankings at 58 per cent while Newfoundland’s outgoing Premier Dwight Ball polled the lowest at 26 per cent.
