Premier Kenney calls on Trudeau to end CN Rail strike

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – Premier Jason Kenny is calling for urgent action to stop the CN Rail strike.
In a Twitter video, Kenney said the strike is just another blow to the agriculture industry.
“Our farmers and ag producers have already been through a really tough year in terms of weather conditions, lack of market access to China and elsewhere. This is another body blow.”
Kenney is calling for the Prime Minister to reconvene Parliament and end the strike.

Roughly 3,200 CN Rail workers walked off the job Monday after the Teamsters Canada and CN failed to reach an agreement on a new contract.

Kenney believes the province will be hit hardest by the job action.
“As far as the Alberta economy is concerned, rail is an essential service. Our economy freezes up if we cannot get our products to market.”
Federal Conservative leader Andrew Scheer also issued a statement calling on Trudeau to get CN back to work saying the strike is hurting all aspects of the economy, from agriculture to manufacturing and mining.
