Shirtless pics of video game characters spark anatomical confusion, online debate

On Tuesday, Sega’s official Twitter account shared a trailer for the upcoming release of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 for Nintendo Switch.
The internet quickly became fixated on the visuals of Wario and Dr. Eggman standing shirtless on an Olympic podium. What’s so contentious?
Eggman has nipples. Wario doesn’t.
And online, fans are wondering why.

Some who are commenting even argue they can see Wario’s nipples.

Sega has not addressed the stark difference in anatomy, or whether Wario does, in fact, have nipples.
Mario & Sonic is set to be released this November. The game gives the option for three-dimensional characters and the classic two-dimensional versions to compete in Olympic sports, including skateboarding, surfing, and karate. Players can also play the game online with up to eight players.
