‘Promises made, promises kept’: Premier Kenney reflects on 100 days in office

EDMONTON – Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says his government is keeping its promises, as he marked 100 days in office.

Kenney spoke outside the Legislature building Wednesday outlining the campaign promises already made in the 3 months since taking over.

He noted that of the 375 promises in their election platform, his government followed through on 68 or 17 per cent of them.

Kenney quickly touched on those campaign mandates which include the carbon tax repeal, job creation tax cut, and the recently passed cut to MLA pay.

That move was met with opposition from NDP members on the pay committee who said the pay cut is a means to eventually roll back wages for public sector workers

After referencing his government’s accomplishments, Premier Kennedy made a new announcement, pledging $10 million to an Indigenous litigation fund to help communities pursue resource-based projects.

He said consultations shouldn’t be limited to groups that oppose projects such as Trans Mountain and pro-development First Nations concerns are being ignored.

The former Federal Cabinet Minister under Stephen Harper’s Conservative government also talked about the upcoming election.

He claims Trudeau is the most unpopular Prime Minister in Alberta history and wants the rest of Canada to know that a strong Alberta is good for Canada.
