Canadian Premier League investigating use of alleged racial slurs following Cavalry FC game

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — The Canadian Premier League is investigating the use of racial slurs following a game between the Cavalry FC and Forge FC on Tuesday.

Forge FC held a 1-0 lead heading into injury time when Cavalry FC’s Dominique Malonga was gifted a penalty kick 5 minutes into injury time. He would tie the game 1-1.

That’s when the two teams came together and a melee ensued.

It’s not entirely known what caused the scuffle, but it’s what transpired during and/or after the fight that has the CPL’s attention.

A member of Forge FC is being accused of using a racial slur against one of the member’s of Calgary’s football club.

Cavalry FC’s Jordan Brown went to Instagram to call for action.

The league says they’re aware of the accusations and are speaking with both teams.

The CPL does not tolerate discriminatory, disrespectful, or offensive behaviour of any kind. They will provide more information as it becomes available.

Forge FC has issued a statement that says:

“The Forge FC organization has a zero tolerance policy on matters of racism or discrimination and such actions have never been, and will not be tolerated. We pride ourselves on a culture of inclusiveness and diversity across our team and throughout our organization. We are looking into this matter, and we welcome and are very supportive of the ongoing review.
