RCMP respond to fatal climbing accident in Jasper

JASPER (660 NEWS) – A man has died after a climbing accident in Jasper last week

Police have identified the man as 63-year-old Steven Stanko, a resident of Jasper.

On Thursday, May 30, RCMP, Parks Canada, and Emergency Services arrived in the area of Leach Lake at the ‘Lost Boys’ rock climbing area, responding to a 911 call of a climber who had fallen approximately 30 metres.

Emergency crews found Stanko who was pronounced dead a short time later.

RCMP said that Stanko was climbing with another man and a local couple from Jasper at the time of the fall.

An investigation has found the cause of the fall to be an accident and no further details are being released.
