Warning issued for High Level residents as wildfire season begins in Alberta

HIGH LEVEL – Wildfire season in Alberta has officially begun as Alberta Emergency Alert has issued a warning for residents in the northwest town of High Level.

A wildfire just south of the town isn’t threatening High Level just yet, but the town and province are encouraging people who live nearby to “stay aware of the evolving situation”.

Smoke from the wildfire can be seen in High Level and Norbord and local fire departments are on hand to help fight the blaze as needed.

“A number of fire departments will be arriving to assist with the protection preparations.  Please welcome them to our community,” reads the town’s website.

The site also says there’s no evacuation order so far but people should be prepared in case the fire worsens and there is a need to leave the area.

“The situation is being constantly monitored and any changes in the condition of the wildfire will be posted on the Town of High Level Website and the Alberta Wildfire Website,” reads the website.

Meantime, ATCO is warning it’s customers that the fire could impact its services and cause outages either Sunday or Monday. If you notice an outage, you should report it to ATCO.
