RCMP officer charged following off-duty confrontation

WOOD BUFFALO (660 NEWS) — An RCMP officer from the Wood Buffalo detachment has been charged following an off-duty incident.

On December 28, 2017, Cst. Barnaby Seregelyi was driving his personal vehicle west of Barrhead when he encountered another motorist and became embroiled in a driving dispute.

During the confrontation, it’s alleged the officer drove his vehicle in a dangerous manner and confronted the woman in the other vehicle, pointing a firearm at her.

As a result of an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), charges have now been laid against the officer.

The charges include dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, and pointing a firearm.

Cst. Seregelyi has been released with conditions and will make an appearance in Barrhead provincial court.

As the matter is now before the courts, no further information will be provided by ASIRT.
