CALGARY — The Alberta Party wants to go north to Alaska.

The party says it would build a rail and pipeline corridor to the 49th state to give Alberta long-term coastal access.

Leader Stephen Mandel says B-C would be bypassed as Alberta pursues a northern corridor.

He says efforts to ship oil east, west and south have been blocked, so it’s time to go in a different direction.

Alberta’s Liberals are promising to boost funding for mental health and addictions treatment by 50 per cent if elected next month.

The party says it would immediately spend 150-million dollars, with another 450 million to come over four years.

Leader David Khan says thousands of Albertans don’t have adequate mental health care and it’s damaging the economy, increasing crime, straining the justice system and driving up health costs.
